Bookshelf Half-Life

A personal library app that doesn't just track what you read, but how each book changes the way you think.

Work Narrative

Q

How did you come up with this project?

A

I've been writing reading notes since I was fifteen. One day, I realized the most interesting part wasn't what I read, but how certain books repeatedly reshaped my understanding of the ones I had read before.

Q

How often do you use this product yourself?

A

Notion tracks 'what you read.' Bookshelf Half-Life tracks 'how this book changed you.' The 30-day reflection prompts and the directed graph are specifically designed to understand how reading shapes your thinking.

Manifesto

Influence Mapping

30 days after you finish a book, Bookshelf Half-Life asks you a simple question: "Has this book changed your perspective on a previous one?" Your answers build a directed graph—a map of intellectual influence that is uniquely yours.

Why 30 days?

Because true influence needs time to ferment. The name "Half-Life" refers to the idea that every book has a decay curve of influence on you, and our goal is to capture that process.

A library is not a collection of books, but a map of a mind.

Current Progress

Core features are complete—reading logs, reflection prompts, and basic graph visualization. The next step is to develop export functionality.
